I wanted to show Medusa getting tired of her own shit and crashing out. I used my friend Khei as a model. She's a trans woman and her look and profile were the perfect phenotype to portray the duality and fierce beauty of mythology's most famous gorgon.

I took this picture when I was breaking glass pipes on my concrete floors about twice a week and had to McGyver a solution more times than I'd like to admit. I've always loved the tongue in cheekiness of Magrittes the treachery of images and wanted to do my own version.

Kintsugi has always been a beautiful concept; using wear and tear to make an object more beautiful, highlighting its imperfections with precious metal gave me the idea to finish her broken edge with gold. The mind is a prison until you break yourself open.
